Constructing Badminton Courts

These courts are big and their layout is similar to tennis courts. It is possible to play badminton on tennis courts, or tennis on surfaces designed for badminton because the sports are similar. Here’s a look at what goes into construction this court:

  • Dimensions - Badminton courts are a little over 20 feet wide and 43 feet 11 inches in length. The court needs to have some safe room around it to ensure spectators aren’t harmed during play. These dimensions will accommodate both singles and doubles games.

  • Layout - There are left and right service boxes on either side of the court but they’re located at the back of the court rather than the front. This is the key difference between tennis and badminton because service boxes are located close to the net on tennis courts. There are short and long service lines to accommodate both single and double games.

  • Material Used - Badminton game courts have hard surfaces made from concrete, asphalt or the modern Versacourt surface. Concrete courts are versatile, easy to maintain, but a little expensive. They need an acrylic layer to absorb shock and ensure players don’t experience too much strain. Asphalt is one of the most affordable options and is versatile. It is easy to maintain and easy to refresh, which makes it a popular choice.

But asphalt isn’t as long-lasting as concrete and Versacourt. The latter is a specially designed material that can withstand a considerable amount of wear and tear. Versacourt can withstand different weather conditions and is low-maintenance. It also provides a very comfortable surface for gameplay.
